Cruelty free makeup

November 23, 2015 | Leave a Comment

I was recently asked by a client what products in my kit are cruelty free and I couldn’t answer her! I knew of a few brands that were cruelty free and obviously I have some brushes in my kit that are synthetic but I wanted to know more! And so the research for this blog began…

Before I start I just want to say that I wish all brands didn’t test on animals however I am not 100% cruelty free. I buy products for their quality not for their cruelty free status.

PETA have a list on their website of all brands that they certify as cruelty free. It seems that brands that don’t test on animals that are owned by companies that do, won’t appear on this list. In order for a brand to be certified cruelty free they must be able to prove that they:

– Do not test on animals

– Don’t sell to countries or operate in industries that require animal testing by law

– Source their ingredients from companies that also don’t test on animals

It is important to note that not all companies that are cruelty free appear on PETA’s list as this is a voluntary listing.

Brands can say that they don’t test on animals however if they sell in China they won’t be given PETA’s cruelty free status. If a brand sells in China they must give the Chinese authorities permission to test their products on animals. An example of a brand that does this is my dear beloved M.A.C. 🙁 Mac say they are cruelty free however they sell in China.

Personally I feel if a brand doesn’t test on animals, but they’re owned by a brand that does, then they shouldn’t be punished. Business is business.

If you’re interested in having your makeup done and are into cruelty free yourself I have more than enough in my kit to be able to do full faces of makeup cruelty free 🙂

The brands that I have in my kit that are cruelty free:

– Hourglass

– Anastasia Beverly Hills

– Kat Von D

– Ardell

– Nars

– Urban Decay

– Kevyn Aucoin

– Illamasqua

– Embryolisse

– By Terry

– Real Techniques

– Sunday Riley

– Ben Nye

– Sigma

– Charlotte Tilbury

– Paulas Choice

– Chantecaille

– Bodyography

Are you into cruelty free makeup? If you know of any brands that are cruelty free and amazing let me know, I would love to try them!
